Wall-Mount enclosures: A quick guide to choosing the most suitable and practical enclosure for your wall-mounted devices

When your device is installed on a wall, on machinery, or on a pole, the enclosure doesn’t just protect the electronics: it also influences the operator’s user experience and the overall look of the final product. That’s why wall-mount enclosures have become one of the most popular choices for equipment with a display, buttons, connectors, and accessible, well-organized wiring—both outdoors (with the right IP protection) and indoors, where design plays an especially important role.

Supertronic manufactures elegant, practical plastic enclosures for mounting on walls, poles, or machines, with a wide range of sizes and styles to suit every project.

1) What is a wall-mount enclosure and when is it the right choice?

A wall-mount enclosure is a housing designed to be securely fixed to a flat surface (wall, panel, or machine), keeping the equipment accessible, well presented, and easy to maintain. It’s ideal when:

  • The device must remain visible (controllers, readers, measuring equipment, machine interfaces, etc.).

  • The operator needs to read and operate a display or controls comfortably.

  • You want the wiring to stay neat and with enough room for connections.

2) Design and ergonomics: if there’s a display, it matters

With wall-mounted equipment, ergonomics makes a real difference. Many models feature an ergonomic front so that, when installed at the right height, it’s easier to:

  • Read the display without awkward posture.

  • Operate pushbuttons or controls quickly.

  • Work safely, even in industrial environments.

3) With or without a connector compartment: choose based on your installation

One of the most practical decisions is whether you need an enclosure:

  • With a separate connector compartment, for tidier, better-protected inputs/outputs.

  • Without a compartment, when you prefer a more open and flexible interior.

In both cases, make sure the enclosure provides plenty of space for wiring and a comfortable interior to work in—especially if you’re integrating multiple connectors, terminal blocks, distribution strips, or power supplies.

In addition, thanks to our customization service, we can carry out the CNC machining your electronics require: display windows, cut-outs for LED indicators, connectors, cable entries, and any other detail—so you receive an enclosure that is ready to assemble.

4) Quick checklist to choose the ideal enclosure

1) Where will it be installed and what exposure will it face?

  • “Clean” indoor areas (office, technical room) vs. environments with dust or humidity.

  • If there’s a risk of water or dust, choose the right IP protection level (depending on the model, from IP54 up to IP67).

2) How will it be mounted?

  • On a wall, on a machine, or on a pole, depending on the equipment and the environment.

  • In some cases, it can also be mounted to pipes or rounded profiles using cable ties (very useful in technical installations).

  • We also offer accessories (clips, feet, anchors, etc.) that make it possible to mount practically any enclosure on a wall, even if its original design was not intended for that type of installation.

3) Do you need a flat lid, a recessed area, or a window?

  • Recessed lid: helps protect membrane keypads and displays.

  • Window: allows you to view the indicator without opening the enclosure.

  • If the design you like doesn’t include a recess or a window, no problem: thanks to our customization services, we can machine it directly into the enclosure.

4) Quick access or maximum security?

  • Screw closure: ideal when you need a robust closure and maximum security.

  • Snap-fit closure: perfect if you want quick access for adjustments or maintenance.

  • Hinged flip lid: essential when you will open and close the enclosure frequently.

  • If you need tamper control, consider sealing options.

5) Aesthetics and visual coding

  • If the enclosure will be visible, design matters; if it will be integrated inside a machine, aesthetics becomes secondary.

  • For installations with multiple units, colored cover strips make visual color coding easier.

5) Materials and options that make the difference

Made from high-quality materials such as ABS, our enclosures are a versatile solution for walls, machines, and other flat surfaces. Beyond the format and size, there are features that elevate the final result:

  • Protection levels from IP54 up to IP67 (depending on the model and the requirement).

  • Flip lids or hinged lids.

  • Recessed areas to protect membrane keypads and displays.

  • Aluminum front panels.

  • Displays adapted for touch applications.

6) Customization: your enclosure “ready to assemble”

Every device is different. That’s why one of the biggest advantages of wall-mount enclosures is that they can be delivered fully adapted to your electronics.

At Supertronic, all of our wall-mount enclosures can be modified to your needs through:

  • CNC machining (cable entries, connectors, windows, buttons…)

  • UV digital printing (logos, text, technical references)

  • Adhesive overlays

  • Membrane keypads

The goal is to deliver a solution that is fully customized and ready to assemble with your components, reducing assembly time and avoiding rework.

Final practical tips

  • Don’t choose only by the external dimensions: check internal dimensions and real wiring space.

  • Define the interface type (display/keypad/connectors), the use case, and technical requirements first; then choose the right enclosure; finally, design the electronics accordingly.

  • If the equipment will be visible, take care of the design: an elegant enclosure improves product perception.

  • If possible, request a sample: testing before producing volume usually saves time and prevents changes.
